Sponsor a Scholar

For $2,500 you can support a scholar for one year including the cost of tuition, books, academic and leadership support.

Donors will be matched with a scholar and receive two updates a year on their academic and community service work and have the opportunity to name the scholarship in honor of a loved one.

If you commit to a scholar’s entire education, you will have the opportunity to get video updates from sponsee, the option for a one-on-one Zoom call, and annual updates after they graduate.

Education is the cornerstone of eradicating poverty and fostering sustainable community-led social change and too many talented and promising students across the developing world do not have access to higher education because of a lack of funds.

When all people have opportunities, we all benefit by living in a safer, healthier and more just world. You have the opportunity to help talented and deserving students achieve their dreams.

Your contribution of any amount will make a difference. Because we are a small organization with such a global reach, community support is fundamental to our success. All donations are tax deductible.

Thank You!

After enrolling at the University of Venda in 2019, I had to drop out in 2020 and 2021 due to financial exclusion. Thankfully, in 2022, the Wells Mountain Initiative came to my rescue by funding my studies.

Today, I am proud to share that, with the support of WMI, I have successfully earned my Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning degree from the University Of Venda.

It has been a long journey filled with challenges, but I am grateful that I didn’t allow circumstances to determine my future. I remain part of the WMI family not as a student scholar, but now as a graduate scholar. - Stella Mangwaya, Graduate Scholar from Zimbabwe

Congratulations, Stella! 🌟🌟🌟

We are honored to be a part of your story.

📉 International development has plummeted in 2025.

This abrupt decrease in foreign aid has been especially devastating in Africa, with funding cuts to crucial health programs, water sanitation, and emergency food access.

The need for impassioned, prepared, and connected local leaders is GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE. Leaders who understand their communities unique needs and are well-equipped to meet those needs with determination and care.

That is why today we are urging you to help meet this important need through the STANDING TOGETHER: Local Solutions that are Here to Stay campaign. Through WMI’s unique model, we empower local leaders through:

     📘 University scholarships

     🌱 Project start-up funding

🤝 Mentorship and a network of peers and professionals

We have set an ambitious goal to raise $130,000 by June 30. WHY? Because the need is urgent, and your gift will ensure we can fund the next cohort of exceptional scholars who will stand together toward local solutions and progress.
