Support our Igniting Change Campaign

Exciting News: Thanks to a gift from a generous donor, all contributions from today to the end of the campaign on June 26 will be matched dollar for dollar! You have the opportunity to double your impact on the life of young scholar and their community!

Why Join WMI for this Campaign?

WMI believes in locally-led, grassroots change. We believe the best way to do this is this to invest in young changemakers.

WMI is on a mission to not only educate young leaders, but to give them the tools and support to transform their communities. Through our scholars’ community work, we have seen that the key to sustainable change is grassroots locally-driven solutions. Through their professional and volunteer work, our scholars served over 172,697 people in the last year.

By sponsoring a scholar you are not only helping educate a young person in need but impacting the future of whole communities.

Through this campaign you also have the option to either designate your gift to a scholar in a field or country of your choice or to one of the following funds:

  • Women’s Education Fund: Across the globe, women’s advancement leads to positive outcomes for all, educating women is the single most impactful development investment you can make, benefiting the individuals, their families, communities and country.
  • Medical Scholars Fund: There is a discrepancy in access to healthcare around the world, we are committed to changing this with medical professionals making up 45% of our students.
You may let us know of this designation through the notes section on PayPal or by emailing alma@wellsmountaininitiative.org

Sponsor a Scholar

For $2,500 you can support a scholar for one year including the cost of tuition, books, academic and leadership support for 1 year.

    • Each donor will be matched with a scholar and receive two updates a year on their academic and community service work.
    • You will also have the opportunity to name the scholarship in honor or memory of a loved one.

Monthly Giving

  • $10/month: Support books for one student scholar
  • $85/month: Support a scholar-led community initiative grant
  • $105/month: Support a semester of education

Paul Vagere recently graduated with a BA degree in Social Science and Humanities from Great Zimbabwe University.

Being born into a low-income family in the remote town of Chiredzi in Zimbabwe, he struggled financially and lost all hope to pursue tertiary education until he gained the Wells Mountain Initiative Scholarship in 2020. As a graduate of Social Sciences and Humanities, Paul is working to ensure the marginalized members of his community have access to better opportunities and improved livelihood.

WMI, I'm one of those who has the same story as Paul and need this scholarship to make my dreams of acquiring tertiary education come to pass. I applied for the last scholarship but wasn't selected and I'm gonna try again this year. It's been 11 years of struggle for college education but the lack of financial support and opportunities have been the obstacles for me. I hope to be successful this year 🙏

I missed the day but our contribution is on its way to support one scholar. WMI is all about making a difference one scholar at a time.

Samuel Nduwayezu is a 2020 WMI Graduate Scholar who studied nursing at the University of Rwanda. Even as a child, Samuel knew he wanted to pursue a career in nursing. A native of Rwanda, he had firsthand experience of the country’s dire lack of access to medical care. There is one healthcare worker for every 1,000 people, with even more drastic shortages in rural communities.

While studying for his undergraduate degree, Samuel became aware of another issue plaguing women and children in Rwanda: malnutrition and its detrimental effects. Using the knowledge he had gained with support from WMI, he formed HEZA Initiative, a community-based organization that supports mothers and children at risk for malnutrition by providing access to nutritious foods like eggs. In addition, they empower families economically by teaching women poultry farming skills, creating pathways for long-term economic stability.

Because of support from WMI, Samuel is pursuing his dream career as a Nurse while meeting the needs of his community through HEZA Initiative. Thank you for making a difference in his life, and the lives of hundreds of women and children in Rwanda!

If you would like to provide education and additional support to even more ambitious young leaders like Samuel, please consider making a gift today: https://www.wellsmountaininitiative.org/donate/

Great work

Massive work indeed 👌

Hi, please can i ask if Wells Mountain Initiative works with and support students from the Southern part of Africa, countries like Mozambique, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana?etc.

There are exciting leadership transitions underway at WMI! Nicole Baker, Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed as WMI’s new Executive Director, effective November 15th. Lisa Meadowcroft has decided to step down and return to her passion for global health. We are grateful for Lisa’s service to WMI and wish her much success in the future.

Since joining WMI in 2013, Nicole has been integral to the organization’s strategic growth. She has been a driving force in building robust and metrics-driven programming that delivers sustainable impact to our scholars and their communities. With her support, our Scholar population has increased by over 1200%, from 59 in 2013 to 806 in 2024. Nicole has spearheaded efforts to expand WMI’s international team from zero to eight members, who are regional professionals who understand the unique needs and talents of the young leaders that we serve. She is a dynamic and visionary leader, and we are thrilled to entrust this next chapter of WMI’s growth to her capable hands.

“I continue to be inspired and humbled daily by the work that we do, and the impact that our scholars are having across the globe, shared Nicole. I believe that education changes lives, opens doors, and is the most tremendous force to unite, care for, and improve the world. I look forward to working collaboratively with our staff, board, and supporters to ensure that more and more young people can realize their full potential and advance social change within their communities.”

Please join us in welcoming Nicole Baker as WMI’s newly appointed Executive Director! As we gear up for WMI’s 20th anniversary in 2025, we are excited to see WMI continue to grow and develop under her adept leadership.
