Who We Are

Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) is on a mission to advance access to university education, predominantly in Africa. We continue lifelong investments in exceptional scholars and alumni through start-up funding and leadership development as they innovate and lead social change.

We’ve supported 900+ scholars in 55+ countries who are now doctors, educators, entrepreneurs, lawyers, engineers, healthcare workers, and leaders transforming their local communities from within. We believe in the power of local leadership to drive global impact — and we’re just getting started.

Why Join the WMI Board

  • Help shape the future of a values-driven global organization
  • Use your voice, skills, and networks to fuel real, measurable change
  • Join a passionate and collaborative board of professionals from around the world
  • Connect with extraordinary scholars at board meetings and Dream Big Conferences

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking engaged, passionate leaders. No prior board experience required — just deep belief in our mission and a desire to contribute.

We’re especially excited about individuals who bring:

  • Passion or experience in education, global health, economic mobility, or Africa-based development
  • Skills in networking, fundraising, branding, social media, finance, or program evaluation
  • Leadership in non-profit governance or human resources
  • Curiosity, humility, and collaboration

Your Role as a Board Member

  • Attend 4 board meetings/year (2 virtual, 2 in-person in Paramus, NJ with hybrid options for those unable to travel)
  • Serve on 2 committees (Development & Communications, Finance, Nomination & Governance, Programs)
  • As a dynamic organization dedicated to empowering young leaders in underserved communities, WMI deeply values and depends on the passion and leadership of its board. In this effort, board members agree to the following phased philanthropic give/get commitment. Years 1 & 2 (Onboarding Phase): $2,500 per year. Year 3 and Beyond (Leadership Phase): $5,000 per year.
  • Act as a WMI ambassador within your networks
